Cage Festival Day Christopher Dobey/John Cage Centennial Festival Washington, DC © 2012

One of several collaborative sumi-e paintings created during a "Breathing Lines" workshop held at University of California, Washington Center. Two workshops, led by Ray Kass, offered an exercise in single brush Japanese sumi-e painting, an approach developed in 1992 by Kyoto-based artist, Jiro Okura, as an homage to John Cage and the Mountain Lake Workshop of Virginia. Each sumi-e painting was created collaboratively on heavy weight Mulberry/Kozu Paper. Every line was drawn by a different participant.
