DON GILLESPIE – Vice President and Director of Special Editorial Projects at C.F. Peters Corporation, now retired Until his retirement in 2002, Don Gillespie was Vice President and Director of Special Editorial Projects at C.F. Peters Corporation, John Cage’s music publisher. He has prepared manuscripts for publication and edited scores by Babbitt, John Becker, Cage, Crumb, Feldman, Hovhaness, Reynolds, Takemitsu, and numerous other composers in the Peters catalogue. Gillespie earned a Ph.D. in musicology from the University of North Carolina and studied piano at the University of Georgia and Vienna, Austria, the latter as a Fulbright Scholar. He has written for journals such as Musical America, The Musical Quarterly, The New Grove Dictionary of Music and Musicians, and Notes. His book Thomas F. Ward, Teacher of Frederick Delius (University Press of Florida) is considered a milestone in research on Delius’s American years. At C.F. Peters, he was co-editor of A John Cage Reader, published in celebration of Cage’s 70th birthday. Don Gillespie resides in New York City.
